Market Fresh is excited for Vidalia Sweet Onion season! With the official start day of April 20th, 2018 just a few days away, we, at Market Fresh Produce, are prepared to have another great season!
The weather put up a strong fight earlier this year, but the Vidalia season is expected to be strong and sweet. Joe Holecek, Market Fresh’s Onion Category manager, just returned from a week of walking the fields with our growers. “In spite of the unusual amount of snow and cold in January, the crop has bounced back and is looking pretty good at this point” stated Holecek.

Vidalia bulbs typically form in a short amount of time compared to others, usually about 11 to 12 weeks. Due to the bulbs growing so fast, they will always be grown as a winter crop and be considered a seasonal vegetable that is only available in the spring and summer months.
